How to Use AI at Work
Excerpted from NAR Realtor Mag.
Presented by Stephen Lee with CRI
AI, it is often predicted, will transform the workplace. Many people will lose their jobs – many others will do their work in a completely different way. But that’s in the future. What’s happening now?
WSJ Readers Responses:
Custom-made podcasts
I use AI for many things in my professional life. One is to create podcasts of my lectures, converting them into audio conversations, which provide my college students with an additional mode of learning. Notebook LM and Google Illuminate convert research papers and lecture notes into discussions. (Ayse Ozturk, Columbia, SC)
Scheduling made easy
On of my biggest challenges at the retail-sale agency I work for is coordinating our field team across the country – creating schedules, tracking results and making sure we have the right people in the right places. When I started using Airtable’s natural language formulas, reporting became nearly effortless. Sales insights from the field flow into reporting dashboards in real time, giving our clients instant access to what matters most. Scheduling was harder to handle, but with help from ChatGPT, I have started writing code to automate the process and communication – matching availability, gepgraphy and priority better than any frantic spreadsheet session ever could.(Kathleen Tozzie,Annapolis, MD)

Checking my work
I am a mechanical engineer who works with advanced mathematical equations to understand how complicated machine move. AI is like having a seasoned engineer working by my side, humble and always helping without judging, even if I ask for more details. I ask two AI models to give me the equations of motion and then I compare them. Even though I could derive these equation by myself, AI gives me an expert eye that checks my math as it becomes more complex.
Using these models versus searching the Web or using Wikipedia is analogous to driving with a paper map unfold on your knees versus using Google Map. (Ashraf Zeid, Shippenburg, PA)
My AI Intern
For my consulting business, AI has been like a sharp, quick-with-answers type of intern. I ask AI to analyze data or content, or to organize it so that I can, in turn, double-check it and include it in my final presentation.
AI helps me spot when I’ve forgotten to include an important aspect in an argument, and challenges my assumptions when I’m constructing strategy framework for a particular business situations.
I my lecturing role, AI serves as a helpful curriculum assistant. It can provide new ideas for case studies to produce for students, generate templates for syllabi and perform other basic teacher-assistant tasks.
Create an ad campaign
I use AI all the time, particularly in advertising. Using Wix, AI image creator, I was able to create wat I think was a great holiday campaign for my auto-detailing company. Just by entering “homey Christmas scene with car in front of home,” I got a classic, cozy scene that invoked a feeling of nostalgia. (Tom Aylmer, Chesterfield, MO)
Editing Power
I write a column for a local newspaper and just used AI to edit my most recent pieces. I was surprised at how many changes it made to my draft, all of them on point. I still needed to make a few edits to the AI test to give it my own voice. AI’s effectiveness and speed really surprised me and save me much laborious editing and re-editing that I normally have to undertake. (Charlie Houston, Paeonian Springs, VA)
Secret Weapon
As an executive coach, ChatGPT Plus has served invaluable time with the ability to help structure, write and edit mu client’s business documents and online profiles. AI synthesizes the content of a company’s website and online presence to allow me to determine an organization’s core value before engaging with its leadership. And, on a fun note, it informs me of ny interests my clients have outside their work, and is my secrete weapon in knowing the latest news about their hobbies or the best restaurants serving ceviche in St. Lucia. ( Diane Elizabeth Cutshaw, Durham, NC)
Job Search
I am currently in transition between executive roles. ChatGPT helps me evaluate potential roles by analyzing job descriptions against my resume to identify missing highlights or shortfalls. I use AI to generate role-specific interview questions and engage in interactive practices.
These tools don’t replace my judgement but enhance it, much like a calculator enables faster, more accurate math. It allows me to focus on strategic thinking while streamlining routine tasks.
Not lost in translation
As an international business student, I rely on AI primarily as a writing aid, especially when expressing myself in foreign languages. For the better results, I ask AI to revise my English to feel more natural to Americans and my Spanish to feel more natural to Latin cultures.
AI help share my ideas more naturally without losing the essence of what I want to convey. (Ian(Hyeongcheol) Yang, Auburn, Ala)
Time Saver
I am a pediatric hospitalist. Recently, I was asked to provide a letter of clinical necessity, to explain to a judge why a patient with complex medical needs should be discharged from the hospital and placed in a group home. I was able to open DoximityGPT, simply input all the active diagnoses the patient had. Within 15 seconds or so my letter was written, describing all the relevant conditions perfectly, speaking to their severity and truly making a good case for the need resources.
A targeted pitch
AI tools function like a collaborative team – researchers, editors and analysts working in parallel. I’ve just transitioned to a new role that requires me to apply for different conference and corporate speaking opportunities.
So, I’ve built a project in Claude with all my writing, the talks I give, and my details. Now when I am preparing an application, I put the conference information in the prompt and it writes my pitch for the talk and the take-aways, while positioning me perfectly for the conference. That saves me hours of time, as all I need to do after is edit and send it out. ( Shira Abel, Lafayette, Cal)
Complexity simplified
AI reduces the amount of time it takes us anmanagement consultants to research a complex new topic without having a background in that area. I recently used Bard(now called Gemini) to understand some technical issues on behalf of an industrial client. Bard helped a lot of explaining the chemical resistance of certain components during the refining process. (Nicholas Pots, Boston, MA)

Jack of all trades
I’ve learned to rely on ChatGPT for its versatility. Daily I use it to check grammar, and spelling in emails, generate content ideas for my blog, create images for documents, and consolidate data in Excel. Sometimes I know an Excel function exists but am unsure how to use it directly. ChatGPT explains my errors and shows exactly ho to apply the function in my report. (Priscilla Bernal, San Salvador, El Salvador)
Meeting Prep
One valuable use-case has been in preparing for important meetings. We’ll present to a LLM[large language model) with speech-recognition capabilities, and then ask it to challenge our insights with questions, and ask it how we could be clearer in our messaging. That’s just one example – we’re just getting started with these tools. (Jullian Gomes, Burlingame, Cal)
My own help desk
I asked ChatGPT to help me restart my frozen Mac when I could no longer log in, after my machine was used by scammers targeting a small nonprofit I am associated with ChatGPT talked me through “recovery mode” and had me quickly back to work. I found AI easier than Google, which refers to websites that are sponsored. (Joe Cox, Fairfax, Va)
